AN ANALYTICAL STUDY OF THE ATTITUDE OF PROSPECTIVE TEACHERS TOWARDS THE TEACHING PROFESSION OF GOVERNMENT AND PRIVATE TRAINING COLLEGES IN MORADABAD DIVISION

This study explores the attitudes of prospective teachers from Government and Private Training Colleges in Moradabad Division towards the teaching profession. In today’s education system, teachers perform multiple roles, serving not only as instructors but also as motivators, facilitators, counselors, and community guides. Effective teaching, the study underscores, demands professional competence, strong ethical values, and a learner-centered approach. The research involved a sample of 150 B.T.C. students (67 males and 83 females) selected through simple random sampling. Data were gathered using the Teacher Attitude Inventory by Dr. S.P. Ahluwalia, a 90-item Likert scale assessing professional attitudes across six subscales. Analysis was carried out using a two-way ANOVA with a 2×2 factorial design. Results indicated a significant difference in attitudes based on gender, with female prospective teachers demonstrating a more favorable outlook towards the profession. No significant differences were observed between students from Government and Private Colleges, nor was there a significant interaction between gender and college type. These findings highlight the influence of gender on professional attitudes, while institutional type appears less impactful. The study emphasizes the need for gender-sensitive teacher education programs and strategies to promote positive professional attitudes, with recommendations for policy, teacher training, and further research including broader samples and additional variables.
