CULTURAL GENRE AND INDIAN KNOWLEDGE TRADITION

Abstract [English]

Broadly speaking, culture can be called the way of life of a country or a people. Scholars of an-thropology and sociology consider culture as a manifest characteristic of the way of life of a historical people and society and target it more or less, sometimes coherently and sometimes incoherently, in all dimensions of life such as customs, behavior, knowledge, science, arts and crafts etc. From their point of view, organized society is the basic entity, culture is its depend-ent characteristics of values, limits and rules, symbols and duties.

स्थूल रूप से संस्कृति को किसी देश या जनता की जीवन-विधा कहा जा सकता है। नृतत्त्वशास्त्र और समाजशास्त्र के विद्वान संस्कृति को किसी ऐतिहासिक जन और समाज की जीवन-विधा के रूप में प्रकट विशेषता मानते हुए उसे रीति-रिवाज, आचार-व्यवहार, ज्ञान-विज्ञान, कला और शिल्प आदि सभी जीवन के आयामों में न्यूनाधिक रूप से कभी सुसंगत और कभी विसंगत रूप से लक्षित करते हैं। उनकी दृष्टि से संघठित समाज ही मूल सत्ता है, संस्कृति उसके मूल्य, मर्यादाएँ और विधि-विधान, प्रतीक और कर्तव्य की परतंत्र विशेषताएँ हैं।
